PURSUE is an annual state-wide event for Alabama college students and high school seniors. The 2014 conference was held February 7-8 at First Baptist Church, Montgomery, and it focused on challenging, equipping and mobilizing students to reach the nations, by helping them understand the imperative of the Great Commission and their unique part in reaching our world for Christ. Hundreds of students made decisions—with 132 indicating that they will PURSUE mission service while they are in college and beyond.
At the conference, we asked students to post their response to two or three short questions related to the missions focus of the event. I was incredibly moved and humbled reading through the student’s responses and thought you’d like to see some of them as well.
I WILL BE THE ONE WHO…
– stands between the world and eternity and offers Jesus
– steps out of my comfort zone
– goes fearlessly
– grows stronger in my faith and ability to share
– gives up my own dreams in order to follow the better and perfect plan God has for me
– works with refugees
– shares the Gospel with my Chinese friends
– trusts that God will use my talent and skill to full potential
– does my best to impact the world starting with one person at a time
– starts a new ministry to international students on my campus
– takes the Gospel to NYC
– answers the call
ONE THING I HOPE TO LEARN THIS WEEKEND…
– a greater obedience towards Christ and sharing the Gospel in other nations
– discernment for what I need to do with my summer
– an all convicting passion for God’s Word
– ways to reach my Muslim roommate
ONE THING I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE MYSELF FOR SERVICE…
– use my gifts for the glory of God
– say “Yes, Lord” no matter what
– get over my fear
– learn Chinese
– pray
– be more disciplined in my prayer life
– make sure I stay in the Bible—filling my cup so I can share with others
– dive into the Word more and start sharing with my roommate
– pray constantly
– follow the Lord wherever He leads
– surrender all my wants for what God wants
We’ll be posting all the notes in the hall outside the Office of Collegiate & Student Ministries in the Baptist Building. If you’re in the area and you want a new appreciation for this generation’s passion for reaching their world, stop by and read them! I think you’ll be as moved as I was.
